Yoteachitjoey started with Joey (me)
—a high school history and social studies teacher from North Carolina, certified in Secondary and Middle School Social Studies, Academically Gifted education, and holding National Board Certification in Social Studies for Adolescence and Young Adulthood.
With over two decades in multiple school systems, I teach AP US History, AP World History, AP Human Geography, IB History of the Americas, and more, while developing curriculum, leading tech initiatives, and partnering with local government and community groups to give students real-world experiences.
Outside the classroom, I'm a creator at heart: since 2017, I've hosted the JoCoYo podcast on central North Carolina history (stream it on major platforms), authored Ostriches are not Effective Educators in 2025—urging schools to embrace AI and smartphones or risk irrelevance—and I'm currently finishing a book on teaching local history. From 2024-2025, as president of our local union in North Carolina (if you know the struggles associated with that, you know), I negotiated with superintendents and commissioners, launched educator scholarships and grants, and helped swing local elections toward pro-education policies.
